Dasara is a very prominent festival of Karnataka and the festivities of the Mysore Dasara are world famous. Dasara is also known as Navarathri or Durga Puja in other parts of India. On the first day, Goddess Shailaputri is worshipped. She is considered as an avatara of Mahakali and is often depicted riding a bull (Nandi) and holding a trident (Trishul) in her right hand.
